====== Great Britain ======

Nowadays simply a geographic entity, the largest island of the British Isles which contains the mainlands of England, Scotland and Wales. Was a political entity between the **Act of Union of 1707**, when **England (including Wales) and Scotland** were **merged into** the **Kingdom of Great Britain**, and the **Act of Union of 1801** which **added Ireland** and formed the **[[The United Kingdom]]**.

The fact that the Kingdom of Great Britain was the constitutional state of affairs at the time of the [[alternate history:American Revolutionary War]] is perhaps the reason for many Americans still inaccurately referring to Britain as "Great Britain". On the other hand, Britain's Olympic team also calls itself "Great Britain" (Team GB) for no obvious reason beyond being inconsistent.
