====== Burundi ======

Burundi is one of the [[offtopic/regions#africa|central African]] countries and also belongs to some of the smallest countries in Africa. The capital has the fun name of Bujumbura. Unfortunately, Burundi is currently still one of the poorest countries in Africa and in the world.

Formerly one of the German colonies in east and central Africa, later ceded to Belgium during the first world war. During this post-German and pre-independence period, Burundi was administered together with Rwanda under the name Ruanda-Urundi. Burundi's official language today is French and it also shares a similar ethnic makeup to neighbouring Rwanda, with most citizens identifying as Hutu, Tutsi or Twa. 

[[Burundi]] borders the [[congo|Democratic Republic of the Congo]] in the west, [[Rwanda]] in the north and [[Tanzania]] in the east and south. A huge part of its western border is formed by the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
