You break it, you buy it: What if there were peacekeeping missions in Libya?

It seems like after NATO backed the overthrow of the Gaddafi regime, it just went hands off, other than some diplomatic token actions. What if it supported a stability mission under U.N. auspices? Or even under NATO, if Russia vetoes it? Or at least backs the Arab League or the African Union into peacekeeping there?

I think the biggest obstacle to peacekeeping in Libya is the fear of another Iraq and Obama's reluctance to get too deeply involved in Middle Eastern conflicts. A stronger European commitment and pressure for a Libyan peacekeeping mission would probably be needed to get Obama to play along with it

Any peace-keeping mission will have to separate the three (or more) Libyan tribes that were feuding for hundreds of years before Ghadafi was born.
Meanwhile, UN peace-keepers will need to listen to a dozen (or more) political parties before they can figure out who really holds power in post-Ghadafi Libya.
Then peace-keepers need to read-between-the-lines to figure out which Libyan political party is backed by the CIA, which Libyan political party is backed by the Chinese, which party is backed by Italy, etc.
The concept makes my brain hurt!
Ouch!

I think the presence of any sort of peacekeeping force will at least be a deterrent to cause groups to think twice before militarizing. Even if peacekeepers are renowned for having poor morale and hands-off ROE, their presence will at least help a little bit.
