Yes We Can: An Alternate Obama Administration Collaborative TL

For now, I'll tackle Obama's domestic policy. But rest assured that foreign policy will come in the future.

-----------------

January 20, 2013: President Barack Obama is inaugurated once again as President of the United States. After the 2012 landslide, Obama pledges to "go bold" with his proposals.

February 14, 2013: The Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 2013 is introduced in the House. It makes Election Day as a federal holiday, a 14-hour day and a Saturday, would allow candidates who receive a minimum amount of small contribution to get public funding, establishes the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and institutes a runoff election for all elections across the country if no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, allows same-day registration, enacts voting system modernization across the country, establishes the Non-Partisan Redistricting Office to handle all redistricting matters, strikes down all voter ID laws, makes registration automatic for all citizens by the age of 18, online registration systems, eliminates caucuses and superdelegates, and adopts no-excuse absentee ballots.

March 29, 2013: The VRA passes the House, 225-210. All Blue Dog Democrats and some New Democrats vote against the law.

May 19, 2013: The VRA passes the Senate, 60-40. With a liberal supermajority, the act passes. However, the law is under threat from the Supreme Court's conservatives.

June 1, 2013: Recent economic indicators show a bright picture of the American economy. Unemployment is 5.8% and is rapidly lowering, economic growth at an annualized rate is at 4.2%, and the budget deficit, at $900 billion, is shrinking. Also, Obamacare has achieved 100% coverage, with a majority of 55% of Americans choosing the public option, 20% in private insurance, 11% in Medicare, 12% Medicaid, and 2% in VA and others. Health care spending has lowered to 14% of GDP and quality-per-capita has dramatically increased.

June 4, 2013: President Obama's approval rating is at 67%.

June 19, 2013: The Equitable Tax Reform Act (ETRA) of 2013 is introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. The tax reform plans to change the tax rate from 10-39.6% to 10-52% [1], closes tax loopholes, and simplifies bureaucracy in tax collection and tax management. It drastically cuts taxes for small businesses but raises taxes on multinationals by 5%.

June 25, 2013: The ETRA passes the Senate, 64-36.

July 1, 2013: The ETRA passes the House 257-178.

July 3, 2013: The ETRA is signed by President Obama.

August 1, 2013: The last railway system connecting Atlanta, Tallahassee, Orlando and Miami is completed. The National High-Speed Railway System is finally complete.

----------------------------------

[1]. His OTL 2016 proposal.

I'm gonna post pop culture after I post about foreign policy.

The sequel to 2010's Guardians of Ga'hoole releases to a mixed reception and gets only $150,000,000 on a $105,000,000 budget.

Nightingale is this the map for the 2012 election? Matches the numbers you gave for the electoral college anyways and I assumed you flipped Georgia to get Obama to 395.

March 29, 2013: The VRA passes the House, 225-210. All Blue Dog Democrats and some New Democrats vote against the law.

May 19, 2013: The VRA passes the Senate, 60-40. With a liberal supermajority, the amendment has passed Congress and is now up to the states for ratification. 38 states, with the tipping point state being Ohio, ratify the VRA by the end of 2018. The VRA would only be functional for the 2020 election.

That would actually be the amendment failing. You need 2/3 majorities in both houses to amend the Constitution.

SUPREME COURT

June 13, 2013: Masterpiece Bakeshop wins a district court case against the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and is allowed to refrain from baking cakes for same-sex marriages, which had been legalized in the state in late 2012.

June 29, 2013: Republicans file a case against the Voting Rights Act of 2013.

November 22, 2013: The Supreme Court Rules 5-4 to uphold the Colorado district court ruling on Masterpiece Bakeshop vs. CCRC.

January 29, 2014: Justice Antonin Scalia suffers a heart attack and retires afterwards.

February 14, 2014: Paul Watford is picked by President Obama to replace Scalia in the SCOTUS.

February 28, 2014: The Senate votes 60-40 to confirm Paul Watford.

March 29, 2014: The SCOTUS upholds the VRA of 2013 in its entirety, 5-4. Paul Watford's confirmation is seen to have guaranteed its success.

April 22, 2014: The Cleaner Fossil Fuels Act (CFFA) is introduced in the House. It mandates carbon capture technologies for all fossil fuel companies, and establishes the Cleaner Fossil Fuels Administration, which will have a fund of $400 billion for the project.

April 29, 2014: The CFFA passes the House, 245-190.

May 29, 2014: The CFFA passes the Senate 62-38.

June 1, 2014: The CFFA is signed by President Obama.

November 6 2008: A secret high level meeting between Republicans is held whereby they establish a "No." Doctrine preparing to Stonewall any and all legislation from Budget proposals to renaming Streets when the new Congress arrives.
Unfortunately Newt Gingrich being paranoid , secretly recorded the entire meeting . Newt Gingrich was on his way home when a street light over due for repair due to budget cuts the year before malfunctioned and his limousine was T-boned by a garbage truck , he died before rescue crews could extract him from the wreckage.
Being a former Speaker of the House the FBI was on the scene fast. The recording of the Steak House meeting was on Presenident Obama's desk first thing in the morning. The "smoking gun tape" was later used to destroy the careers of several people and provided evidence necessary to start investigations that sent several more to prison and started a republican party civil war.
The most entertaining part of the whole thing was a live on air brawl between Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly.

(2) Because things are much better for the Obama administration ITTL, she does not see the need to resign in 2013 to focus on 2016. She stays as Secretary or State for a second Obama term.

(3). That's my plan.

More on the 2014 midterms, and then to foreign policy.

Beau's cancer has been butterfiled away. President Biden can be a possibility, but I already have plans for, spoilers: Hillary 2016. It can happen, at a later date.

This is a dem wank so I dont see why not Hillary 2017-2025 followed by Beau Biden 2025. Beau could even be her Attorney General, and Russ Feingold for VP!

May I contribute? I have some ideas about Puerto Rico statehood and the uncapping of the House

Race for the White House and efforts to reform the House

March 4, 2015: Senators Tim Kaine and Ben Cardin of Virginia and Maryland introduce the Representation for the People of Washington DC Act 2015, which would convert the Delegate of the City of Washington DC at large into full fledged House Representative and expands the Senate to accommodate for 2 new senators, to be elected in 2016 and 2018. The Act is immediately endorsed by President Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democratic minority leaders.

April 11, 2015: The Representation for the People of Washington DC Act 2015 passes the Senate 61- 31. There are several abstentions from Progressive Democrats who despite endorsing Senators Kaine and Cardins bill on principle, are annoyed that the Bill would strip a representative from another state come the 2020 census. Efforts to ad an amendment to uncap the House fail

May 4: Senator Russ Feingold of Winsconsin announces hes running for president, despite HRC having the endorsement of President Obama and the perhaps heavy handed support of the DNC, Feingold bows to fight for the nomination. Latter that month Representative Joe Kennedy announces hes running for president too. Pundints speculate he may be shooting for VP

May 5, 2015: In a private phone call between Secretary Clinton and Sen Feingold, the former assures the latter that he "wont take it pass Winsconsin"

May 19, 2015: The Representation for the People of Washington DC Act 2015 passes in the House 251-144. Once again several member of the Progressive Caucus abstain

May 27, 2015: In a interview in CNN, Sen, Joe Manchin of West Virginia laments that all 3 serious candidates for the democratic nomination are full blown progressives and thus they are "leaving us (Centrist democrats) begind" Manchin still reassures that he wont switch parties - despite Senate Minority Leader ??? (I don't know, lets say Lindsay Graham) all but promising the leadership after he retirees

June 15, 2015: Former Florida governor, John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, son of former President George HW Bush and younger brother of former President George Bush announces hes running for President. Political commentators point out that Bushs platform would not be "out of place from Al Gores presidential campaign", many attribute this to President Obama dragging the country to the left, and that the only hope for Republicans is "third way republican". What's left of the Republican congressional caucus endorses Bush, along with mayor conservative commentators and pundits

July 4, 2015: As a "Fourth of July special present" President Barack Obama signs the the Representation for the People of Washington DC Act 2015, along Delegate-turned-representative Eleanor Holmes Norton. The House of representatives will have a size of 436 until the 2020 census were it will revert back to 435. The same day President Obama, in a speech along side Puerto Ricos Resident Commissioner (its non voting delegate), reassures Americas relation with the "the island of enchantment". Americas good fortune in the last years have straightened the statehood movement, but the island remains deeply divided on this issue

July 5, 2015: In a special meeting between President Obama, Secretary Clinton and the Democratic progressive leaders, the former two pledge their full support for the uncapping of the House of representatives. Clinton promises to puth forward and amendment "day one" to institute the Wyoming Rule which dictates that no congressional district should be bigger than the smallest state. Under the 2010 census rules, that would increase the Houses size to 545 seats. Talks about reforming the Senate however, get nowhere

July 15, 2015: Former Governor of Ohio John Kasich announces hes running for President as the conservative alternative for Bush, citing "there's still room for common sense conservative policies in America"

November 4, 2014: The Midterm Elections are held.

SENATE

75/100 Democratic (+2)
25/100 Republican (-2)

HOUSE

306/435 Democratic (+14)
129/435 Republican (-14)

GUBERNATIORIAL

Arizona: Fred DuVal elected
Kansas: Paul Davis elected
Maine: Mike Machaud elected

-----------------------------

November 19, 2014: The Expanded Health Care Access Act (EHCAA) is introduced in the House. It amends Obamacare by giving $500 billion (and more when needed) for the construction of health care centers, clinics, and hospitals in all 50 states (with emphasis on less-healthier states such as the Deep South), and decently-paid medical practitioner dedicated to the original 2010 law (and also to Medicare Medicaid), essentially bringing British NHS-style care to the United States. It also makes Medicaid the low-income version of Medicare.

January 15, 2015: The EHCAA passes the House, 257-178.

January 29, 2015: The EHCAA passes the Senate, 60-40.

February 2, 2015: The EHCAA is signed by President Obama.
