XYZ affair leads to war

We could also made an alliance with Britain, so we might have avoided TTL equivalent of the War of 1812, and overrun all of France's American colonies (there's not a lot of them but that makes it easier to occupy so I'm sure most of the American public wouldn't mind, the only real challenge I can see is Haiti).

so, does that mean more than just the naval engagements in the Quasi-War during 1798-1800 ?

Hamilton was busy raising a grand army of the republic, with an eye towards seizing Louisiana and Florida from the Spanish.

If war had broken out, I think he would have succeeded in short order. Where it could've gone from there is anyone's guess, but General Hamilton, the conquerer of Louisiana, may be able to mold the Federalist Party in a way that makes it more palatable to the west.

The French and Spanish could not defend their colonies from Hamilton, with British aid the French Naval presence in the carribbean would be neutralised too.

Hmmm, with Hamilton's intended GAR, would he also have sought to recruit Indians & blacks into its ranks so's they could fight for the US in this implementation of Manifest Destiny ?

If Alexander Hamilton leads an army into Louisiana and Florida, then I think you'd see a second term for President John Adams. The Federalists' stock goes up in the western states, with Hamilton as a conquering hero. I think an enunciation of principles, especially internal improvements like roads and canals, would be a logical way forward. The war and the internal improvements platform captures the political loyalty of young men like Henry Clay, who will go on in OTL to found the Whig Party and in this TL will become a Federalist.
