WWII What If: Patton Pacific

You do recall correctly, but I have never heard of Patton being considered for a command in China, nor do I believe that, given his history, he would have been given one. 15th Army was a "twilight assignment", so to speak, in order to spare him the embarrassment of relief.

Just about the time of the bombs he made his comment about people joining the Naxi party pretty much the way we joined political parties, which while factually mostly correct was NOT a thing to say at that time. THAT was when he was transferred to 15th Army. He was indeed considered in late 44 for a Pacific command; at that time there was a possibility of a large offensive in China.
