So I had this scenario in my head (perhaps more for General historical fiction than AH): a guy from the western allied forces -- maybe a pilot who went too deep into German airspace, maybe a POW escapee, what have you -- finds himself in territory where he's cut off from his own division, but can rendezvous with Russian forces.

My question: did anything like this actually happen? And more to the point, was there a policy or arrangement in place for situations like this? Would our hypothetical soldier now be out of the war (as a Russisn prisoner, "guest", or what have you), or was there a procedure in place to get him "back into the fight" (a way of returning him to his nation's forces, having him join Soviet forces as attaché, etc)?
