WWII Abides

Hitler listens to his generals and more. He stops at 1939 levels. He doesn't attack Poland or anyone else.

Germany enters a period of economic retrenchment through austerity and continued military buildup. Heisenberg's A bomb project is canceled in 1941.

Japan does not attack Pearl Harbor. The Manhattan Project is canceled in 1942.

Hitler and Russia invade Poland in September of 1950. What happens now?

Oil

Well, for one thing, the Japanese run out of oil about halfway thru 1942. The US had cut them off of oil unless they withdrew from China.

There was a proposal being floated from the Japanese to the British sometime in 1939 for them to mediate an end to the war, giving independence to territories Japan had 'conquered' and allowing Japanese suzerainty over the new states. The Japanese Empire might decide this is the best option to take.

I would say that whilst this might be possible, given sufficient political manoevring and counter-coups etc within Japan, its main effect would be to sunder Japan completely from any European alliances. This would have the effect of making Germany far more wary of any entanglement with the USSR since it no longer has anything to hold over it in the rear

Germany needs to relax its laws on foreign investment - getting someone pragmatic into greater power could achieve this, but in peacetime its going to be hard for someone like Speer to rise to the top. Maybe if Hitler has a temporary breakdown or something (akin to the Kaiser's pre-WW1) then a period of Goering Regency could see some moves in this direction
