WWI United States vs. WWI Japan

Maoistic

This is my first thread, which I found an interesting topic of discussion.

Specifications:

-This is the United States and Japan alongside ther respective armies as they existed in 1914.

-Both will be fighting in the Pacific ocean trying to invade each other's mainland territories (I think this is obvious, but just to be clear).

-Assume that World War I will not happen.

-Assume that no other world power and country will intervene.

-There are two possible winning conditions - and just one has to be accomplished:

1. If the main government of either is overthrown and the country annexed to the winner or replaced with a puppet regime.
2. If one of the countries surrenders and sues for peace.

Japan is doomed on those conditions, they didn't really have the means to invade and occupy America in the 1940s, let alone 1914.

I'd see any war between the two being over islands in the pacific and ending with a treaty, but not ending with the occupation or annexation of the other.

The US “wins” (as in Japan sues for peace).

For the same reasons the US beat Japan in WWII.

No mainland invasion will take place on either side. The war is fought basically entirely at sea with ground combat extremely limited. Japan ultimately quits when it becomes clear they are going to lose the naval war. Likely very little changes.

The US might, at most take Taiwan. Even that is highly unlikely. More likely Japan pays some money to the US and that’s that.

Basically, it’s a pointless war between two powers that don’t stand to gain anything.

The main point would be that Japan has not yet gained the German mandates, without them she cant really stop the USN reliving the Philippines and therefore being much closer to the home islands much sooner.
