WWI: Make America a Central Power

You'd need a Major Incident that Wilson can't sweep under the Rug. Something like a British Captain sinking an American Ship.

Remember the US was selling to both sides early in the War. Perhaps an overzelous British Captain sinks an American Merchantman on suspicion of running ammo to the Germans or something.

Alternately, Britain or France starts mucking around in the Western hemisphere, trying to get allies in South America or something. It's not impossible that Brazil and Argentina could have chosen sides during the war, and it would be a blatant violation of the monroe doctrine. . .
Both of those scenarios are not even close enough to get Congress to declare war. The Lusitania wasn't the first ship sunk by the Germans in WWI. The Allies wouldn't be looking for allies in South America. They don't need any, the ABC powers will do just fine exporting food to the Entente. Brazil might as OTL declare war but that isn't a violation of the Monroe doctrine at all. The U.S has never enforced the Monroe doctrine anyways. As I and others pointed out earlier, a pre WWI POD is needed. A few really, to stoke anti British feeling every few generations. Even then without a real threat either north or south of the border the U.S is likely to stay neutral depending on who is president.

Rivalry between US and British imperialism will certainly affect the American political scene. If the PoD is sometime during TR's OTL presidency, we could see him running again in 1908 or a GOP nominee who is more interventionist (i.e., not Taft). In order to differentiate themselves from "Republican imperialism", I can see the Democratic Party become more Bryanian (if that is a word) and less progressive.

I think to actually get the U.S in war you want to start with earlier PODs. I am compiling notes right now, for a TL based around the idea of a second Mexican Empire surviving aswell as other US and British diplomatic incidents. I think I'll also have other things to change the war severely, that have to do with Italy.

EDIT: I've always been a fan of the Progressive Party, and TR, so I'm sure I'll find a way to ensure the Republicans split. The Democratic progressives split between Wilson and TR if I remember correctly, with Wilson getting some ~40% of the vote OTL. Of course with different PODs and butterflys things 'll be different. What is interesting is that the U.S will be fighting a two front war, (assuming 2nd Mex. Empire) one in Mexico and one in Canada.

Lets say the US doesn't enter WW1, and due to lack of dollars, GB can't buy oil from the US.

At this point President Carranza of Mexico (who has been arguing for an embargo on sails to the beliigerents) now stops exports of Mexican oil as well. In order to keep its supply lines open, Britain tries to land troops at Tampico, and the US Navy buts in to stop this violation of the Monroe Doctrine.

In theory it could happen that way, but in practice I very much doubt if Britain would risk it.

Excited to see what ideas you got
