WW3 1975 to 1980

So WW3 scenarios are often in the mid to late 80s, the early sixties and a few in the fifties or forties.

There are relatively few 70s WW3 scenarios.

Thus my post-how would a WW3 from 1975 to 1980 go? Would the Soviets still have overwhelming conventional superiority?

Could they get to the Rhine?

And how would US troop drawdowns and the political aftermath of Vietnam affect the American response?

Warhead count
Year USA USSR
1975 27,235 19,443
1976 26,199 21,205
1977 25,342 23,044
1978 24,424 25,393
1979 24,141 27,935
1980 23,916 30,062

As you can see WWIII, both sides have enough firepower to truly do M.A.D., so all the periphery is not important, as US, USSR, Pact Nations and West Europe, all will be a wasteland from the Pyrenees to Siberia.
The 'lesser' powers, France, UK and China all had between 200-350 weapons, and in full WWIII spasm, all will be gone as well.

Even with these weapon levels, you won't get the nuclear Winter as was the popular scare, but enough radioactivity that it really won't matter where you are at in the Northern Hemisphere.

Watch _Threads_, and that pretty much everywhere.
