The red army of 1941 was not an effective tool against a fresh german army... a number of different POD's can make them better but here is the otl bottom line whatever strategy develops
German advantages:
their equipment had been field tested, and field proven in 2 years of combat, the troops where highly experienced in it's operation and employment (even if their weapons where technically inferior)
their command staffs, officers and NCO's had a mountain of recent operational experience and where well rehearsed in handeling a fluid battlefield
the LW was highly experienced and their fighter pilot quality was amongst the best in the world
Russian problems
many of their troops where illiterate conscripts with zero experience
their officers where terrified of political pressure and or failures and would make mistakes due to this
their officer corps, nco;s and command staffs had been purged of nearly all non yes men
despite the quanitity of their equipment, its field servicability wasn't the greatest and a lot of it was obsolete
the army had just been spanked in finland and morale was awful
