WW2 era Twin Engine Carrier Fighters - the good, the bad, the ugly

Oh, I made a mistake regarding the 210. It had DB601s, which were reliable, but it was considered underpowered.

I always thought that the 210 was the only fighter the Luftwaffe ever had that was both a night fighter designed from the ground up AND capable of handling the Mosq? Or am I thinking of something else?:confused:

And yeah, once the handling issues were resolved the Tigercat for two-engined naval carrier fighters adopted in WWII pretty much beats 'em all. Don't know about the specs on the Sea Hornet though.

The Me210 was a death trap when it was sitting on the ground in the hangar. (I may be exaggerating for comic effect here).

You are probably thinking of this: The Heinkel 219. Not originally designed as a night fighter (it was a redesign of a high speed bomber project), but often touted as a Mosquito killer.

And therein lies another debate: Was the Uhu all it was cracked up to be?

Oddly enough the Hungarians seemed to think the ME210 was the best thing since sliced bread.

But then again I was assured by a Romanian that all Hungarians are crazy.

Maybe we can give the 109 a bit of love in this thread.

It solves the undercarriage issue, but doesn't really address the view over the nose.

No that's why they were all taken out shot and turned into glue.
