Wrestling WI: Jerry Lawler's heart attack was fatal

On September 12, 2012, during a live episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, commentator Jerry "the King" Lawler collapsed live on the air after wrestling a match, and was taken away to receive medical attention. It was soon discovered that Lawler had suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, he recovered, and was back commentating on live WWE TV only two months after his medical scare, a role he continues today.

But what if: Lawler's heart attack had been more serious? If he had died on live TV, how would WWE have handled it?

(Let me state for the fact that I wish no ill will on Jerry Lawler. I met him at a fan convention about 2 years ago, and he's a pretty neat guy.)

Both the smackdown and Raw after would be a tribute show to all that he did, but it's all too likely the e would have had some criticism over their wellness policy again.

btw, Walkman are you going to continue Rise of the Dragon?

I can see them possibly getting sued by Lawler's family, getting some bad publicity because of it. It might even drive away some disgusted viewers, even more so than when Owen Hart died. The ultimate irony would be that unlike Owen's fall, WWE couldn't possibly have prevented what happened with Lawler.

Lawler's replacement on commentary would probably be either Jim Ross (at least until he retires) or JBL, since those two both filled in while the King was recovering.

...and to answer your question: of course! :)

Knowing Vince, the show goes about as it was, with lawlers death being announced live on the air, and the following smackdown becomes a tribute show.

I saw the show, the commentators became quiet during the fight and i think the rest of the show would go without commentary and a short explanation in the end. The cameramen would be instructed not to show anything and the wrestlers that would have planned to fight at the commentary box would be told to keep it in the ring

Well first would be the Tribute show. Likely JR would be on comentary for a short time, both as a tribute and to cover the gap. After? Not much would really change. I mean King is a great guy and a true vet but he's not really integral to the running of WWE. While he's not replaceable as a person his job isn't something that can't be done by someone else. The most lasting legacy of his death would likely be a more stringent health screening for returning wrestlers. Especially the post 40 crowd. Guys like Sting and HHH would likely have a few dozen more cardio tests to get cleared to compete.
