Hi. I have writer's block on my TL, Empire of the South. And recently I've been reading about the Shu state in early China. So, I've been thinking about doing a timeline on it. Be warned, much of the culture of Shu will be completely fabricated by myself using educated guesses--we know very, VERY little about it. So...what d'ya'll say?

Sure, why not?

Although the butterfly effect would be pretty fucking massive. You'll have to take the whole surrounding world into account, for thousands of years.

China wouldn't end up as either a nationalist republic or a communist state, that's for sure at least.

I recommend it. We need more Asian TLs, particularly ancient Asian TLs.

I'm not entirely sure on how correct these sources are, but they can help guide a bit if you need a bit of a baseline. I also recommend using a bit of Ba influence depending on the point of divergence.

The problem with these types of alt-China timelines is that the one we have, the Qin-Han-3 Kingdoms-Sui timeline, is extremely dominant. We have no clue what the non-Qin kingdoms were up to, whether or not they spoke the same language (although it is generally assumed so), what gods they prayed to, etc. So any changes would almost have to be entirely fictional, or else you're just replacing one name with another.

The whole story about Huangdi vs. Yandi is another suspicious event that I think can be deconstructed.
