I know the Nationalists had severe problems with corruption and that the KMT's corruption played a part in popular support for the Chinese Communist Party, but after reading a few quotes about the extent of the corruption, I am having serious doubts about whether they could've held onto power had they won the CCW.
General David Barr, the US advisory group to the KMT regime, was critical of the extent of the corruption of the KMT regime, going so far as to recommend an end to US military aid, citing the lack of popularity among the people of Chiang's government.
The 7 June 1951 edition of the Madera Daily News Tribune reported that during a investigation of General McArthur's dismissal from command of the Korean War, it was discovered that a clique, surrounding Chang Kai-shek, enriched themselves off a physical transfer of 200 million dollars in American gold under a 500 million dollar aid program to China in 1942. Senator Brien McMahon used this as evidence that Chiang Kai-shek was not driven out of mainland China because of a failure of US policy, but because of the "corruptness, rottenness and inefficiency of his own government",
Joseph Stillwell, a US General who was very much pro-KMT, was infuriated with the extent of corruption in the KMT. In his diary, he kept notes of the amount of money ($380,584,000 in 1944 dollars) being wasted upon Chiang-kai-Shek and his government. In fact, he was so fed up with the corruption that he once called for the end of US military aid to China, since it was just enriching the government and not going to the soldiers or the people.

So, assuming the KMT wins the Chinese Civil War in 1946, would it be able to hold onto power or would it be brought down by it's own corruption, leading to a China that is worse off for the future?
