Would the Confederacy have included Arizona?

By Arizona I don't mean the state either because it doesn't even connect... I got introduced to the idea of alternate history from Turtledoves book. Honestly I think I've seen far better ideas here than what he managed to get published and that goes for Stirling too, especially Stirling. But one thing that bothers me in that book series... They got Kentucky why not Arizona too? The CSA for a time controlled southern New Mexico and Arizona from Mellisa, New Mexico.

The Union would have to both lose Fort Craig and not get lucky at the Battle of Glorietta Pass and destroy the Confederate supply wagons. Even then Sibley would have had to capture Fort Union.

well the Confederacy DID claim an Arizona Territory IOTL--it comprised the southern halves of what are now the states of Arizona and New Mexico, so they clearly had something to this effect in mind. i'd say it may have eventually been used as a staging ground for an invasion and annexation of northern Mexico.

right but would they get that territory in any final peace with the US?

It depends on how well the Confederacy did. If it barely finished the war alive, probably not. If it got out in good shape, It's more likely they get Arizona.

They also claimed the north of then New Mexico territory (which is now mostly northern New Mexico and Arizona). It was even less likely that they would have gotten that in a peace settlement, but it is a (remote) possibility.

Could Arizona farms support a slave-economy?
Could Arizona import enough water to support cotton farming?
Could Arizona import enough water to support tobacco farming?

Sibley's campaign in the west was almost cringeworthy when you read about it. There are a lot of 'ifs' involved with him managing enough victories to cement his control of the area.
