Would South Africa annex all of Namibia if it included Southern Angola

Say the plan for division of Portugal's colonial empire between Germany and Britain goes through and the Southern Half of Angola is add to Namibia.

Assuming World War 1 goes as per otl, Would South Africa still annex all of Namibia or limit it's gains leaving out the most populated areas.

Perhaps it would make more sense to add Ovamboland and the rest of the northern bits of Namibia to southern Angola and leave the less populated majority area of the country with its large white and mixed race communities with South Africa.

South Africa was allocated the territory of the former German colony as a mandate territory under the League of Nations. If the territory had been larger, and WW1 had the same outcome, it is likely that it would still have been allocated the same way.

Namibia was never annexed - this was discussed by Smuts and later Malan in the late 40s but never implemented. Namibia did not become a province but instead was ruled by an Administrator - General appointed by Pretoria, with some very limited representation for the local white population.

In essence, Pretoria ran Namibia as something akin to an external colony or overseas dependency.

The partitioning of Namibia was pursued by Verwoerd OTL, in the same fashion as in South Africa - defining black bantustans and the bulk of the country under white civil law. In this "larger Namibia" they would presumably have done the same - keep some choice portions of southern Angola for whites, especially (parts of) the coastal region and the high-value agriculture land of the Huambo Plateau, then subdivide the rest into several ethnicity based bantustans.

It wouldn't have been two territories, but one large, "white" Namibia and multiple small bantustans on the less valuable lands[/QUOTE]
