Would Kennedy Have Gone to Dallas had the Security Been Worse?

Would Kennedy have felt safe enough to go to Dallas if the security detail of "350 Dallas policemen, about a third of the force," "and this would be supplemented by forty state police and fifteen Dallas deputy sheriffs,"[1] that was promised by police chief Jesse E. Curry had been less? Dallas was full of right-wing fanatics opposed to Kennedy, and ambassador to the United Nations, Adlai Stevenson had advised Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. to discourage Kennedy from going. The security detail had been increased because of an angry demonstration earlier against Stevenson that had embarrassed the city. So would Kennedy have still felt safe enough to go to Dallas without this added security?

Be a cold day in Hell before a POTUS is afraid to visit an American city.

Most Presidents have faced at least some fanatical opposition, it comes with the territory.

The "right wing mood" of Dallas is largely a myth, as shown by the large number of people who came out to greet him.

The Secret Service's main concern was a lone nut with a pistol jumping out of the crowd.

A lone nut disgruntled Communist with a rifle, looking to kill someone to make a statement, who by sheer dumb luck had a job in a tall building on the parade route was not on their list of threats. IIRC I don't think someone had ever tried to kill a President with a before with a rifle, whereas three Presidents had died by pistol shots.
