Assuming Roosevelt lives past the war and hangs on until at least the end of his fourth term, does he recognize Israel? IOTL, Roosevelt had very good relations with the Arab world at the time, so I'm not so sure if he'd be too gung-ho on recognizing Israel in the manner that his successor did.

I'm not sure. FDR got on well with Jewish individuals domestically too. Louis Brandeis comes to mind. Further, I've never really viewed FDR as a president really capable of considering fully the long-term consequences of his actions. I agree that he's less likely than Truman to opt for recognition, but how much less I'm just not sure.

Maybe if the other side had it's country too?

That would require a different POD given that Syria, Egypt, and Jordan are not likely to surrender their gains from the Israeli War of Independence without some motivation (such as other wars with Israel) to do so.

Roosevelt's anti-colonial leanings would have led him to recognize Israel if it meant more countries becoming independent like in Africa. Of course, one wonders how Palestine turns out in a scenario like this, and that could be the ultimate stumbling block for the FDR Administration's recognition of Israel.
