Would any other candidate be as Capable as Lincoln

In the face of the Civil War....would any of his rival candidates for the Presidency be just as capable of holding the Union together as Lincoln was? Would they ensure Southern secession, or would they actually prevail in maintaining the Union?

This is assuming that Lincoln does not get the nomination, nor is he in the cabinet.

Edit: also consider not only the Rival candidates, but also his fellow Republicans who also wanted the nomination.

Douglas: Probably would have managed to do it, but his administration would be more cronyistic than Lincoln's was. Nor would we see the "Team of Rivals," but a clique of Young Americans and War Democrats anxious to put their differences with the South aside once the Union was restitched.

Bell: Probably would've fucked it up long-term. I can see him just letting the secessionists go.

Breckinridge: Would have kept the South in the Union, delaying the war by 4 years.

Also consider the other Republican candidates. I'll edit the OP.
