With Bell second, Breckenridge third, and Douglas dead last in term of Electoral votes, would that have any meaning in the end results? Would Bell winning the Border States and Breckenridge only taking the Deep South (and Delaware) change the way some states might progress in deciding to secede or not? Would it have a big impact or not in the long run?

The Chivalry, or Southern migrated, Democrats did try to set up California as an independent republic (again), but that never really went anywhere. Besides them I don't think there ever was an impetus to do so (Mayor Fernando Wood suggested it for NYC and that went nowhere to).
