Would a Tilden Victory in 1876 Have Been Better for Civil Rights?

It seems counter-intuitive, but would a Tilden victory in the 1876 election have been better for civil rights in the long-run? Because of Hayes' bargain, the republican party essentially disappeared in the South, and the GOP moved so far rightwards on reconstruction that blacks and former radicals became political orphans. With a Tilden victory, the Republican party would have remained, by default, the party of integration. Would this ha?ve made the party less willing to abandon blacks to the redeemers of the south

Reconstruction was soon going to end anyway. Once Federal support (meaning troops to protect former slaves and uphold Federal law) were withdrawn, the GOP in the south was going to take a severe hit. Southern Democrats simply weren't going to allow blacks to exercise political power.

After 1876, the GOP continued to support civil rights. It's just that their means to do so in the South was very limited. This will happen even if Tilden is President. I don't see Tilden enforcing civil rights measures in the South in defiance of his own party, the Democrats. This was the case of every Democratic President in the era, no matter how progressive, until Truman integrated the armed forces.

How progressive were the late 1870s Republicans exactly? What I meant was that, if the Democrats end Reconstruction without the collusion of Republicans, would the GOP scream enough to prevent them from abandoning pro-reconstruction sentiment for a while?
