Worst ERE/Byzantine defeat Pre 1453

Here’s my list of some of the Eastern Roman Empire’s and the Byzantine Empire’s worst military defeats at the hands of non Romans. Naval battles not included. If there are any I’m missing list in comments, thanks. There is no wiki article for the Battle of Chersonesus, but it is in a number of books i have. It was during Huns campaign against Eastern Rome 441-44. Attila trapped a fairly large Eastern Roman force under the command of three Germanic generals, named Aspar, Areobindus and Arnegisclus, in the Chersonesus valley and slaughtered them. This then lead to the peace of Anatolius between the Huns and Eastern Romans on April 27th 443.

Yarmouk. That battle cost Syria and eventually paved the way for the Muslim conquests.:(

Well winning at Yarmouk prevents any possible scenario leading to Manzikert in the first place so...

By that logic, winning Adrinople prevents any of the others from happening due to butterflies. So obviously Adrianople was the worst defeat, because it allows the others to happen.

thats a good point, srry i was busy thinking up battles on non-Europeans and forgot to put it in

Non- Europeans! The Goths were definitely European so that statement is incorrect!
---------------------
Zoroastrian Avars? Sassanid Superpower? Pyrrhus, Basileus Of Macedon? It's all there in"An Alternate History Of Macedon"!
