Al-Qaeda doesn't commit 9-11 and instead plan a bigger attack. Al-Qaeda steals bioweapons and release them killing millions and causing economic collapse. By 2008 about 1/3 of Earth's population is dead with the rest including me living in squalor and misery.

Ohh...Fun!!:D

Okay...so i was born a few months before the Soviet Union collapsed.
Here's my scenario:

As the August Coup in 1991 is failing, the communist hardliners decided for some reason to take the whole world down with them. They launch as many nuclear weapons as they can. The missiles hit places all around the world, and the U.S. and China return the favor. Billions will soon die in the passing years.

The Current situation:

The Whole world is slowing dying. Humanity is expected to be competely extinct before 2010. Even though I have survived, I suffer from a deadly cancer due to the radiation. It is a miracle that I have even survived to 2008. Like the vast majority of the human race, I have lost all hope and have failed at multiple attempts to commit suicide. The irony of the situation is that true equality on a global scale was only achieved though the use of WMDs.

So how was that?

Aww...I was hoping to be first!:(:p;) Anyway, that was a cool scenario General.

Ditto. Thought I don't think a nuclear war would make us extinct, pockets WILL survive. (I want to play fallout 3 now, can't wait till Christmas )

1980: The Soviets had invaded Afghanistan and American hostages were still in Iran. Under enormous pressure to respond, President Ford, who had ironically won in 1976 partly on a pledge to avoid foreign entanglements following Vietnam, responded with a show of force in the Persian Gulf as a message to the Russians and the Iranians to both force the hostages' release and the Soviets' withdrawal.

Instead the opposite happened. The Russians offered their support to Iran, and the Ayatollah, although he hated communism, accepted a deal with the devil against a common enemy. The hostages were then traded to the Soviet Union in exchange for military support (which was done on the pretext of a Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan).

Everyone knows what happened next. For me it meant the permanent interruption of my first year in high school and relocating to West Virginia, and spending much of the Eighties in various "Tent cities" of refugees from the areas surrounding places like Washington, D.C. (on clear nights you could see the glow from the ruins on the horizon). The nuclear winter that followed lasted for only about two years, but the rationing meant going without dinner some nights. Eventually I was drafted into the "National Recovery Corps" that then-president Casper Weinberger had formed (this mostly involved pointing a rifle at disgruntled refugees in the food lines more than anything else). This lasted until the Corps were disbanded by President Jerry Brown, who was elected in the aftermath of the civil war of 1992.

The last ten years or so have been largely about America's slow but steady recovery. Foreign aid from China, which is now regarded as the world's leading superpower, and free trade with Mexico, a rising economic powerhouse, is still provoking grumbling from nationalists but is by and large accepted and has helped. Scientists say that climate change created by the greenhouse effect caused by debris in the upper atmosphere has been alleviated somewhat by the emphasis on electric and alternative fuel vehicles since the destruction of most of the Middle East's oil reserves during the war.

If only we didn't have to rely so much on imported turkeys for Thanksgiving-those things cost a fortune in gold coins.

Obviously the worse TL for you personally would involve a really personal scenario. For instance, say a few minutes after my birth some random guy is driven mad by some particular experience - said experience activates his psychopathic tendencies and makes him want to take revenge on the world.

Several years later he abducts me from my parents and keeps me in his basement where he subjects me to two decades of perpetual torture.

Its all pretty personal and quite disturbing to think about.

I think one of black angel's requirements was that pretty much everyone's lives had to suck equally.

In late 2006, North Korea conducted an underground test of a nuclear warhead. The United States and the UN were outraged by the event. Rather than North Korea slowly stepping down and relieving tensions, North Korea sees this as a direct threat on their soveriegn independence.

North Korea, in a suprise attack, begins the invasion of South Korea and the launch of artillary and chemical weapons. Although the Second Korean war is over in the matter of months with joint cooperation between the United Nations, United States, South Korea and China.

The United Nations tasks the United States and China in the reconstruction and reunification of the two Koreas. However, the United States and China begin disagreeing on the unification process and tensions begin to rise. To show force, China's premier orders the PLAAF to fly over both Japan and Taiwan simultaniously. The United States become outraged and increases Naval presence against China.

In response, China cuts all economic ties with the United States and throws all American businesses out of China. The United States instantly loses 15% of its imports and exports, throwing the United States into a major recession. China then pins an ultimatum against the United States, end its military presence in Korea and Japan or face further consequences, the United States refuses. As a result, China attempts an invasion of Taiwan but is stopped by the U.S. Navy and Air Force.

In response and in a suprise attack, China launches missiles at U.S. bases in Japan. The United States then uses conventional missiles against the bases that launched attacks on the U.S. bases. China then responds and launches MRBMs against U.S. assets in the pacific, including Hawaii; the United States responds respectively with ICBMs into China.

A nuclear exchange is conducted between both Chinese and American nations, causing millions of deaths in the United States. Oncoming radiation kills billions more world wide.

The testing of India's nuke causes a confrontation between China and India leading to a general war between them in 1976. With few nuclear warheads and primitive delivery systems only a handful of nukes are used, but chemical weapons are used extensively. Peripheral states throughout Asia are sucked into both the main fighting and their own side disputes, however the Soviets and US/NATO stay uninvolved. China and India attempt to import arms initially but soon run short on credit and rapidly evolve their own verions of peoples war oinvolving huge numbers of poorly equipped light infantry.

After 3 years of fighting a humanitarian crisis erupts, famine and plague followed my mass exodous from Asia. Hundreds of millions of armed and semi-organised refugees 'invade' the rest of the world causing a clash of civilisations. The west militarises and goes into the business of slaughtering these hordes.

By 1985 we are in a new dark age, and I'm 13 and well into my pre paramilitary training. However I'm fortunate in that I live in a rural area well away from the militarised zone north of the tropic of capricorn, there is enough food grown locally that we don't go hungry like those in cities.
