Here is the premise...
There was an assassination attempt on Hitler (one of the many). Here is what happen in IRL:
One assassin (who was not a party member) bought a gun from a shop with French Francs. He then tried to take a shot at Hitler before the Munich Olympics. A waving flag held by one of the people in the crowd messed up his shot and he hit an innocent bystander and spent the rest of his life in a delightful prison. As for the shopkeeper, the SS only asked why he accepted French Francs - he was fined and not even punished any further or farther than that.
Now for the difference:
Hitler is killed on opening ceremonies.
The SS finds evidence of a French plot.
How would Germany fare in an earlier war against France?
