World War III 1951 [Escalated Korean War]

Recently I've been wondering, what would have happend if MacAurthur got his wish and was allowed to attack China. This will be one of a couple of ATLs for Korea. I've done a bit of research on the tactics, doctrine and war plans for both sides in this TL and plan on creating a TL from 1950-1960 on the war and possibly post war era.

I would be grateful if I could get some feedback and info from you more experienced members. I should have part one up by the end of the weekend.

WWIII definitely.

The question is, besides, US/SK and PRC/NC, who would get involved, and who would belong to each side?

I am not sure it is World War III. I am not sure the Soviets get involved.

The Soviets mat not have supported the Korean War directly, but a sudden drive into their largest Allie (PRC) and the possible use of nuclear weapons is sure to. Although I wouldn't expect to see Soviet Armor charging UN forces till MacArthur either attacks or uses the bomb.

I don't know, the Soviet Union can't really do much to hamper the U.S. much less drop an actual atomic weapon of their own.

So besides one-way Tu-4 bombing runs, the only thing the Soviets can really do is bring a minimal military presence into the Far East.

I absolutely agree that it is the beginning of WWIII. As soon as we crossed into PRC the soviets get involved, although I dont know how much of an effect that would have on the conflict in the first few months.

I suppose if they really wished, they could push into Western Europe. That would definitely tie down NATO forces, but it probably isn't worth the consequences for them.

Also, my research indicates that the Soviets had a grand total 25 warheads in 1951, all of which were classified as "non-strategic". Which means they probably could not be delivered to CONUS.

The Soviets were paranoid but they were not stupid. On 19 October 1948, when Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay assumed leadership of the Strategic Air Command. They could destroy the USSR. The Soviets had 25 bombs they may be able to use in Europe. So Western Europe and the USSR are destroyed the US wins.
