I am writing a WI Scenario (Inspired by the Cuban Missile War Thread), about a possible conventional war between the Soviet Union and her Allies and the Nato Powers.

The war date will start on October 17th, 1989.

Here will be the events preceding the War. I chose August 31st, 1980 to be the POD.

Timeline leading to War, involving a maniacal Gorbachev, a Coup, and a Hostage Crisis gone wrong!!!

1980-

August 31st (POD)- The Lenin Shipyard Worker's Protest in Gdansk, with non of the requests made by the workers made into law, thus, no Greater Civil Rights given, and things return to normalcy. With the Gdansk Act non existent, the Soviet Economy does not suffer.

September 9th- The Iranian relations about the Hostage crisis completely break down. Five Hostages are executed and the rest are to be tried by the Iranians.

November 4th- The United States Presidential Election. Ronald Reagan beats incumbent Jimmy Carter, but does not get the votes of Illinois as he did IOTL.

1981-

January 20th- Ronald Reagan is inaugurated. A former KGB sleeper cell in Washington fires shots into the crowd, one person is killed and three wounded. The President was at least a mile away from the shooting.

August 11th- The Soviet Union signs a secret trade agreement with Libya for more oil, and in exchange, Soviet Technology is given to the Libyans.

August 19th- Gulf of Sidra incident. Libyan MIGs shoot down 2 American jets, killing all of the American pilots.

August 24th- In response to the loss of 2 American pilots, American fighters launched from Israel and Greece bomb a Libyan Airfield. Five Soviet MIGs are destroyed, as well as much of the airfield. 35 Libyan Personnel are killed, as well as 18 Soviet Pilots who are training the Libyans. Libyan SAM sites open fire on the American jets as they leave, shooting down one of the American fighters, both of which survive and escape to Tunisia.

September 1st- Spanish Communists bomb the American Embassy in Madrid, killing 8 Americans as well as 19 Spanish Civilians. Nato's offer to Spain is cancelled the next day due to inability to keep control.

1982

November 10th- Leonid Brezhnov, General Secretary of the Soviet Union dies.

November 12th- Yuri Andropov becomes the General Secretary of the Soviet Union. Angered at Yuri Andropov's ascendence into office, Dmitriy Ustinov, Minister of Defense of the Soviet Union begins plotting a coup against Andropov.

November 15th- Ronald Reagan offers talks with Andropov to discuss settling the deteriorating International Crisis at hand.

1983-

January 19th- Ustinov (Who supported Andropov IOTL), gains the support of much of the Red Army. Only in about a week Ronald Reagan is to meet with Andropov about settlements on the deteriorating crisis. Several Polish, Romanian, Soviet, and Hungarian politicians/Generals are in on the coup, all relying on one man, the KGB recruit Vladimir Putin, who was assigned the task of killing Andropov himself. Ustinov, who with Putin meets Andropov at the halls of the Kremlin late in the afternoon. The three meet in Andropov's Office and using a silencer, shoot Andropov to death. The Coup is initiated, as Soviet Generals from around the Moscow area loyal to Ustinov march on the city in a quick coup, and only one hundred Soviet Soldiers are killed.

January 21st- Leningrad is taken by the Coup, as well as most of the Soviet Union. Within the first hours, mcuh of the Warsaw Pact condemns Ustinov, but over the days, one by one, members accept Ustinov as the unchallenged leader of the Soviet Union. Vladimir Putin, for his involvement in the role is given the position of Deputy of the KGB. Other Coup leaders who were more deeply involved than Putin are either killed by Ustinov's KGB, or given the high positions.

January 26th- The news of the Coup hits Reagan hard. He knew Ustinov and Ustinov, the leader of the Soviet Union now, was not willing to negociate. Most Soviet citizens are now in full support of Ustinov. The Moscow Accords are passed, giving Ustinov full control of the Soviet Union.

December 25th- By this point, all of the Hostages of the Iranian Kidnapping crisis have been tried and executed. Roars across America for revenge appear.

1984-

April 14th- American Bombers from Saudi Arabia bomb several military sites in Iran, killing an estimated 500 men. In response, Iranian Short Range Rockets crash into American Frigates in the Persian Gulf, all missing.

Almost soon following, almost seemed to be forces, all of the Middle Eastern nations Gorbachev had talks with secretly join his alliance.

December 25th- Gorbachev makes the Berlin Wall Address to the people of Germany, whose standard of living increased over the last few years (Avoiding the collapse of the Soviet Bloc for at least a few years). Please comment, I know some of it is a little unrealistic, but do understand, I don't know much. Any information on Soviet Military stuff would be helpful for my war description.
