World War 2: Poland accepts Romania offer for military assistance

Something else to remember here is that the Nazis found the atrocities of the Iron Guard to be off-putting. On the other hand, I don't think the Iron Guard was in power until 1940 anyway in OTL.

they had situation where Antonescu was liked by Hitler and it seemed they could have a more"mainstream" government.

if they were dividing the country under armed force (with the Soviets, and to a lesser degree the Hungarians) they are not really, at least at that point, concerned with a more legitimate government or building up the Romanian military, etc. but probably more likely to employ the fanatics of Iron Guard?

to each their own opinion on whether total control over the oilfields or enlisting a Romanian army group to invade the USSR would be a better scenario (for Nazi regime)

not sure what division you thought I was proposing? but basically exactly what you stated, Wallachia or the old Kingdom (in purple) as a German puppet state, Hungary to receive all of Transylvania, and the Soviets take Bessarabia (plus)

recall the Iron Guard assassinated the PM, and tried for the King (?) around the time of the invasion of Poland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Armand_Călinescu

The old kingdom on your map is Romania. Wallachia and Moldova together make Romania. I think they'll be split to before they united. The Soviets won't stop until they hit the carpathians and the danube

Iron Guard Wallachia and Communist Moldova

Romanians made offer because of Polish Romanian defense treaty (treaties).

Can you mention the details. Who made the offer, when, through which channels.

The way I know it, it was Poland that did not request the activation of the Polish-Romanian treaties, and not for one but for two good reasons:

1. they thought Romania would not choose to go to war against Germany anyway, regardless of an alliance treaty that had been designed to contain lightweight Hungary, not heavyweight Germany, and
2. failing that, they hoped the Romanians would allow at least military supplies through from Constanta and up to the border, and that had better chances to work if Romania remained neutral.

It's a very good point that you raise regarding treating the remnant Romania with care and how to run it.
