I have been working on a timeline lately that would be mainly based on the idea on a continued Roman Republic well into the middle ages. I got the idea of keeping it a republic from several threads on this site. But that wouldn't be the the only change to world history, in fact I have been researching and trying to come up with several empires and kingdoms across the ancient world. This has resulted in me making some real empires less successful and others, real and fake, much better off.

Ok so like I said I started off with the survival of the Republic lasting more then a millennium longer then in OTL. I made the POD in 44 BCE (There's a shocker :p) where Caesar survives the assassination attempt, any reason will due nothing is final yet. After this moment, a moment of revelation comes to him and he sees that the power of Rome is to great to be left to just one man, but to fragile to be left in the hands of the Senate alone. And so he sets out, after dealing with those who conspired to kill him, to establish a more stable government. After a decade of much discussion with his advisers, the Senate, and many others, a new system is created. Through it calls for a loss of power for all those involved, Caesar uses his eminence power and popularity to force these changes. The First was the localization of the Senates powers to just the Italian peninsula and Gaul, and the creation of two other senates in Constantinople and Carthage to represent to varies peoples of Greece/Antonella and North Africa respectfully. This essentially turned the Republic into a federation, and gave the many subjugated peoples a voice. Now these senates served many purposes, of which they administrated their regions, checked the power of the other senates, and acted as an electoral collage for a dictator, a position that would now be permanent. This elected dictator, who had to be over thirty two and have either had a triumph or have held a major political office, would serve a twenty year term and be supreme commander of the legions, but however not the cash flow. This resulted in the dictator needing to look to the senates to fund any campaigns and the senate to look to the dictator for defence.

Now the expansion of Rome would continue the same as in OTL for the next two centuries. But would also include the creation of two more senates in Hispaniola and Mesopotamia, over the next few decades these regions would become heavily romanized. The dictators of the following century would spend their terms pacifying domestic disputes, and securing the vast eastern border. It was in this time however that the a rhetoric began to grow in the senate of Rome, of a return to a time when the Roman Senate held all the power. This soon spread to the city of Constantinople, who themselves began to wish for independence. They would get their chance in 301 CE when a massive Parthia invasion of Mesopotamia would destroy the regions senate and the then Dictator in its defence. The Roman and Constantinople senates abstained from nominating a new dictator and from electing any from Carthage or Hispaniola, resulting in the 'age of the three republics'. Though Carthage and Hispaniola did elect an Alexandrian politician as Dictator he was not seen as a legitimate commander and only controlled a small piece of the former Roman army. Mesopotamia was abandoned and left to the Parthia's. Over the next centuries the Roman and Constantinople republics would decline as Germans and Parthians began to press on their borders.

It seemed all was lost when the German hordes where only miles from the city of Rome. But a new Roman general would appear on the scene and push the Germans out of the Italian peninsula. Eventually he lead his army back into Gaul and to the north sea, eventually returning to Britannia, only to face much more organized and centralized Britons. The Roman Senate nominated this general to become the new Dictator, the Hispaniola Senate, having their own German problems voted for him, as did the Constantinople Senate. Carthage who was out voted was forced to depose of their dictator. By the 6th century the Germanic tribes had been pushed back across the Rhine, with the exception of a small band known as the franks. And peace with the Parthia's was made, as they were having their own internal issues. The next century was marked by the reconstruction and reunification of the republic.

In the 8th century Greece, Albania and Bulgaria fought for and won their independence. However Greece would continue to fight over the ownership of its southern parts and island into the 13th century. As Well as the Frankish Kingdom would expand. For the next few centuries a kind of dark ages would take hold as the Republic scrabble to hold on to an empire that was slipping from its hands.

By 1285 CE the world looks as it does in the map, Rome has lost most of North Africa to the Moors and other Islamic armies, and allowed what remained of Hispaniola to become independent in face of a civil war. However Christian Rome (not sure how that works out yet) did begin a Crusade to take the city of Jerusalem and established a new senate there. The Vikings some time in the second millennial established several successful colonies in Newfoundland and New England and introduced the Americas to the rest of the world much earlier. The Romans not to be out done, used their extensive knowledge in boats to developed 16th century sailing technology much earlier and colonized the Caribbean. the Germans would eventually capture this technology in an invasion of a Roman port city.

The Americans for their part , though hit hard by disease would take to European metal working technology, and incorporate it into many of their societies.

I also added many African nations just to add some dynamics to the continent.

Asia you'll see has a less successful mongol Empire, a still existent China, and a Nipponese Empire. Witch all have to do with each other. When the Mongols failed in their invasion of Ni hon, the Nipponese people came to believe that in order to protect their home land they had to expand. And so after a sort time of campaigning the controlled the whole of the Goryeo Peninsula. This invasion prevent the mongols from taking the whole of China. I also added for the fun of it a Tibetan United Kingdom, and multiple small states.

I know this kinda sucks, but that's why I posted it here. I'm hoping for any help you guys can give, including filling the gaps in my Roman history as well as telling me when I'm full of shit (Though I doubt you need my permission to do that XD) My knowledge in American Native tribes is especially lacking and the more help there will be greatly appreciated. Also any questions on what any thing on the map is will be answered, I do have a general idea of what a lot of them are and was just to lazy to summarize them.
