Without slavery, what would the economies of the OTL slave soceities be like?

If we somehow prevent the Transatlantic Slave Trade, but keep the colonisation of the Americas on track, what would the economies of places like northern Brazil, the southern USA and the Caribbean be like? Would they be rural/industrial? Would they attract European immigration a lot more? Or would they be so hot and tropical Europeans wouldn't want to go there?

Well if you look at the early history of Virginia before slavery really took off you saw significant immigration and tobacco-centric economic development based on using white indentured labour but the problem was the death rate from various diseases was so high you needed continual immigration to keep the population steady never mind growing. So over the course of centuries you are going to see tropical areas fall behind temperate areas in population terms.
