With a POD of 1800, how inevitable is the scramble for Africa?

With a POD of 1800, with the Imperial Game having already begun in earnest, how inevitable is the New Imperialism? If it didn't happen, what would the likely fate of sub-Saharan Africa have been?

I would say that scrambe of Africa was pretty inevitable with POD of 1800. There wasn't much powerful empires which could have been able to resist European imperialism. It might be lesser succesful but still Europeans have notable colonial empires in Africa.

I dont think it's inevitable, at all, at least in the 'space filling empire' sense of OTL.

European powers will vassalize/conquer states they can easily reach, especially if they have valuable resources. But projecting power inland is blasted expensive, and why bother, mostly.

Note that many of the claims to the interior didnt get established until late in the century.

Mind you, I do think a Scramble was LIKELY. But I dont think was inevitable.

I agree with Dathi, I think a Scramble is still likely, but with a PoD 80 years out a lot can change. Almost anything can happen, and by the end of this alt-19th century this "Scramble" may not resemble the one from OTL at all (competing claims cause the Europeans to fight one another, more surviving independent African states, etc.).

That alone should make for a very interesting 20th century.
