Wilson's Legacy - Discussion

On October 2nd, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson suffered a debilitating stroke, that resulted in his wife dictating Presidential policy for the rest of the term. It's dubious whether or not she actually repeated anything he really said, or simply pushed her own policy and labeled it as Wilson's words. But, let's for a moment assume that she did indeed simply speak on his behalf. The POD here is that, one day, while feeling particularly sick, Wilson comes up with what seems a brilliant idea to his sickness-addled mind. Call in the European War debts.

Yes, really. He insists to his wife that is what he wants. When interviewed many years later (practically on his death bed), he will claim to not remember the incident whatsoever. Within a month's time, an international incident has happened on account of Wilson's sickly plea. Europe is absolutely pissed off at the USA, who was already a bit on the bad side for not joining the very league that they created. But this time, it's just too much.

Europe gives a rather emphatic no, America seizes the British, French, and Dutch West Indies, and a mutual embargo has begun between the two nations. The US Navy is working up a plan to blockade British and French Guyana, in order to extract payment from the Europeans. Meanwhile, the French have turned around and demanded that the Germans quicken war repayment. All of these factors work together to put post-war Europe and America into a Great Depression. Economic strife is everywhere, and some worry that the revolutions of Russia will spread like a plague into Europe, plunging it into darkness.

The only real benefactor of this entire ordeal is Japan, who are running wild in Eastern Russia, and now enjoys the position of being able to trade European and American goods to Americans and Europeans, respectively, making a massive profit for the small island nation.

Just a little idea I cooked up. What do you think happens next?

never seen this before so it should be interesting. Japan, I'm guessing will be much closer to the US this time in its war against China, and should they war on the Allies, the US would actually support them in their attacks on Indochina.

It's an unique idea, and I hope you pursue it.
Oh, I have no idea where it would go, that's why I am asking Ah.com.

The idea formed when I read a comment by someone that basically said that Europe would go into anarchy w/o America's post-war support, and then it just expanded from there.

Wilson probably goes even more into Phillip Dru mode than he did OTL.
Additionally, since the Depression can be traced back to Wilson, I could see a Socialist Revolution in America in 1919-20.
