Willy the stupid King of England

It is unlikely but not impossible that Victoria might have had fewer sons and none out live her or leave offspring.

In that event on ordinary rules of succession make the Kaiser King of the UK.

I assume something will be done to stop this,

Any ideas?

Could it be the cause of a British commonwealth or republic?

It could happen after all the male heirs could all have died from the royal blood disease.

If Queen Victoria lived longer and her male sons died earlier then the eldest grandson could lay claim to the BRITISH throne and be called King William V of Great Britain but under the pretense he denounces the German throne which he would not do. Unless there is a British and German Union

Why Billy the Stupid tho? Him in charge of the Navy, Army and Empire could be a good thing.

Some politicans may shun the idea but can't denie him his right, if there is no other legitamet heir to the throne. No one in Britain would want a republic after what Cromwell was like.

It might be possible, but I think it's more likely that Willie gets replaced with the head of some cadet branch or other, if not when Victoria croaks then as soon as WWI starts.

If anything I expect German-British relations to be worse than OTL, with the Double-king-emperor trying to get the same power in the British Empire that he has in the German, and the Parliament shutting him down at every opportunity, even when they don't really need to :p.

why hate good ol' willy?

And why Anglo-German Union is bad? For a starter, Willy now has all Royal Navy to play with instead of little high seas fleet.

While British parliement now can use help from German troops at India, so nobody will think to even go independent there...

And even if he's deaf to Bismarck's tutelage, I'm sure if Disraeli is still there, Willy will get some royal spanking from both to reform him into a competent Emperor.

With personal union of British and German Empire, there is no need to keep the Balance of Power at Europe... While British and German people from now on will go tug of war over Emperor William V's ears, they can now cow French into submission while keeping Russia at bay.

On the day of Victoria's death, 22 January 1901, the line of succession to the British throne was as follows:

Prince Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (b. 1841), eldest son of the queen
Prince George, Duke of York (b. 1865), eldest surviving son of the Prince of Wales
Prince Edward of York (b. 1894), eldest son of the Duke of York
Prince Albert of York (b. 1895), second son of the Duke of York
Prince Henry of York (b. 1900), third son of the Duke of York
Princess Mary of York (b. 1897), daughter of the Duke of York
Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife (b. 1867), eldest daughter of the Prince of Wales
Lady Alexandra Duff (b. 1891), elder daughter of Princess Louise
Lady Maud Duff (b. 1893), younger daughter of Princess Louise
Princess Victoria of Wales (b. 1868), second daughter of the Prince of Wales

So as you can see there are a few in front of German Billy

A personal union of this sort would, due to the zeitgeist, make both the British and German people feel that their national sovereignty and great power status was being threatened, so they'd all resist. The days of the Angevin Empire or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth are long past by 1901.

Also, Wilhelm himself was a complete twit  :p

William IV was King of both Great Britain and Hanover as recently as 1837 so even in 1901 it's within living memory for a Monarch to rule in both Britain and Germany.

But Hanover isn't Germany. He was King of GB and Hanover was largely a self-governing after thought, no matter how important it may have been historically. Germany is a whole nation that's nearly Britain's equal with it's own goals and problems. Many goals that are in opposition to England's.

Neither Britain nor Germany would have had a problem ruling the other but to act as equals within a personal union would be nearly unworkable. Added to that is the shift in the balance of European power that would result. You'd probably see a WWI that was Britain/Germany vs everyone else. But I don't think it would ever come to that because I believe that Parliament would revolt and chose a new king before they went to war for Germany.

Not going to happen because:

1. Wilhelm cannot be king of England if the Kingdom of England has ceased to exist almost 200 years ago.
2. The British Parliament would never allow it. Getting rid of Hannover was a blessing, imagine how much of a curse would having the entire German Empire, the foremost power on the continent, enter a personal union with Britain.
3. Even if Parliament wouldn't have a problem with it, I doubt the other European powers would be very comfortable with having a juggernaught of such magnitude breathing down their necks.

What about instead of Billy, they skip him for his brother, Prince Henry of Prussia, full name Albert Wilhelm Heinrich, born 14 August 1862 and died 20 April 1929

Not only was he a younger brother of German Emperor William II and a Prince of Prussia, he also had a career naval officer, holding various commands in the Imperial German Navy and eventually rose to the rank of Grand Admiral.

I think him being King Henry IX or Albert I would be the best option of getting a german royalty on the throne bringing the house of Hohenzollern to Britain
