William Henry Harrison

What if Harrison lived through his presidency? Let's say he didn't give that speech, or we can butterfly away the rain. What would he presidency be like? What where his goals as president?

That speech he gave laid it all out, basically. He wanted to bring the Second Bank back and further implement his buddy Clay's American system. Executive power would be reduced, though I believe it would mostly be a case of the President not exercising his prerogative in important arenas instead of an actual reform to that effect. And the spoils system was supposed to be dropped. Since his successor, Tyler, dropped many of those plans (since he was basically an unreconstructed Democrat), one might be able to say that a longer Harrison term would have involved basically the aforementioned American system's implementation.

A rather interesting side effect is the possible constitutional crisis that could result if a President dies in office during a far worse time. Since Harrison would not yet have died and Taney would not yet have hashed out the custom of vice-presidential formal succession to the title of President with the Cabinet and Congress, things could get messy...
