Wild Bill Hickock survived

What if the infamous gambler, gunslinger, lawman and scout hadn´t been killed by Jack McCall in Deadwood 1876 ? (Note, that only several weeks later young Mr. Earp and his brother arrived in Deadwood) How would that have affect the Mythos of the Old West ?

I doubt much changes in Deadwood. After recovering, I'm guessing he'll move on to the next boomtown and start over. It sort of depends on how he views his close-call. Either he tries to shape up and go the lawman route (or starts a saloon or something), or he continues drinking and gambling until another sore loser takes a shot at him.
