WI: Zeno recognizes Soissons as successor of WRE

So what if that happens?

Does Soissons survive?

What does this mean for Odoacer?

How long can Soissons hold out against the franks

How will northern France's culture be affected?

1) Why would they Soissons isn't even in Italy.

2) No.

3) No longer than OTL.

4) Means nothing because they wouldn't recognize Soissons anyway.

5) No longer than OTL.

6) Again no effect.

If by some ASB miracle Syagrius claims the Purple and gets recognized not much. The roles of Nepos and Syagrius would be the same in regards to Italy, unable to exert any hard power on the peninsula and move their court; for Nepos this was because of a lack of a powerbase, both militarily and socially as no one wanted him there in the West so far as Italia was concerned; Syagrius because of both the fragility of his Gallian powerbase and general distance, Aegidius and Syagrius didn't claim the empire because there was too little gain for so many complications Gaul was just a better position at least in regards to politics.

Going along with you question, it means he has yet another enemy with ambitions on his area of control without the means to take it, but with Eastern support for Syagrius maybe something could come of it though likely not without ruin for one or both parties, that sort of infighting was the sort of thing that broke the Empire in the first place, doing the same while both are in such a weak position could be horrible.

I am not one of those people who think that Soissons was doomed, all you have to do is keep the Franks disunited and on fairly friendly terms with the Romans in Northern Gaul. I may be wrong about this but it seems like the Visigoths would be more of a threat than the Franks in most circumstances.

Too hard to tell, way too far back and the way it could go maybe there will be no "France".
