WI: Yugoslav Albanians sent to Turkey Post-WW1

What if during the Greco-Turkish Population exchanges, the Albanians of Yugoslavia and Greece were sent to Turkey as well?

Today there are
1,800,000 Albanians in Kosovo
510,000 Albanians in Macedonia
70,000 Albanians in the remainder of former Yugoslavia

So there would be a little under 2.5 million Albanians (present-day) in Turkey.

I seem to recall that the Greeks wanted to include the Muslim Cham Albanians in the population exchange with Turkey after their war, but the Italians pressured them not to. Italy was already setting itself up as the "protector" of Albanians, so Rome may well weigh in if the Yugoslavs attempted the same, particularly as they didn't really have a people in Turkey to exchange for.

Hm.

What if Greece and Yugoslavia had partitioned Albania and all of the Albanians ended up in Turkey?

Considering Turkey had like 3 million or so people of Albanian origin nowadays, more if one of the parents is Albanian. That would be way over 2,5 million by present day. Expect over 10 million people of Albanian origin.

Other than the question, who is going to populate large swat of lands left behind? The Serbs? Not enough people. Croats? Greeks?

There were a lot more Greeks expelled from Turkey than Turks expelled from Greece, so the logical answer would be that Greeks would settle it.

I'm more talking about the Yugoslav ruled parts. Is Turkey also going to send Greeks to Yugoslavia?

The Greeks ending up in their share of Albania means Bulgaria has a good chance to claim Macedonia (not take it but claiming it)

The OP mentioned Albanians in Greece and Macedonia. If Greece had got some of the areas in what is now called Northern Macedonia, Greeks could have been settled here, in addition to areas that is Greek OTL. If also the Albanians in Albania was expelled, the southern part of Albania would be most relevant. As far as I understand religion was important for deciding who should be transfered, so probably Christian Albanians would be allowed to remain in such a population transfer.

If Italy were actively involved and approving of this for some reason, they could send their Albanians as settlers: the Arberesh people, who’ve lived in southern Italy since the 1400s after having fled the Ottomans

You're forgetting that they're 2.5 million today. In 1918 they were 440 thousand. Consequently, I don't think that resettling the lands left empty would be impossible. There were large areas in Central Serbia and Bosnia where the rural population was arguably overpopulated. Though sending Serbs from there to Kosovo would certainly weaken the Serbian position in Bosnia and Vojvodina. They might try to attract more settlers from other parts of Yugoslavia, with the additional "benefit" of reducing minorities in other regions.

Wasn't there another thread a while back that mentioned an actual proposal in OTL involving IIRC Ataturk which ultimately went nowhere?
