WI: Yellowstone Erupts in the 19th century?

US and Canada would survive barely, the sky would be blotted out quite a bit, famines would strike across the world, but eventually things would recover much quicker than The Peshawar Lancers. It doesn't seem like a good analogue at all.

This.

Peshawars is a little extreme with the total societal collapse of the Western world. Even with crop die out in Europe, I don't see their countries collapsing. There will be famine but it wont be the end of days. Canada and the US would be very different, but even they I can see surviving in VERY different forms. I just don't think they will become Mad Max/Fallout raider nations. Even the Confederacy is above donning bondage gear, jumping into death wagons and tearing around the wastes shooting arrows at people.

I believe you have a talent for understatement! :)

Edit: I could see one saying in a supporting sentence, "...such could have disrupted the completion of a trans-continental railroad," etc.

I am not sure if that is a real compliment, or you trying to be sarcastic?
