Historically, Xicotencatl the Younger, a prince of Tizatlan (one of the four city states of Tlaxcalla), nearly defeated the Spanish conquistadors, only to be stopped by the withdrawal of the soldiers from Ocotelolco, another one of the Tlaxcallan city-states, on the orders of their leader Maxixcatl. What if, by some POD, the soldiers from Ocotelolco do not retreat, and the Spanish are completely defeated? For instance, maybe Maxixcatl gets ill shortly before the battle and is not able to send the message to his soldiers. What would happen to Cortes and his men, and how would this affect Spanish expeditions in the Americas?
