WI WW2 Allies realize potential economic benefits from war and prolong it indefinitly

What if sometime before the invasion of Italy, the allies come to a consensus that the war is just too profitable, and decide to keep the war going indefinitely? They secretly attack the Russians so they are out of the way, then they just spam so many bombers that eventually the German and Italian industry is just a shell, just enough to keep them 'in the game', so to speak. The United Kingdom and the United States 'invade' infrequently, mostly just for show but they are always pushed back by the German Wonder machines(they just retreat and execute all of the soldiers involved).

The Island hopping campaign goes on indefinitely, taking and retreating from islands, manipulating the war. The allies use this as an opportunity to crack down on communists and any other dissidents, as well as strip civil liberties and push even more federalization legislature.

It almost gets to Orwellian levels of manipulation, but would something like this be possible? What do you think would happen?

I'm too tired to go into why this would never happen.

Because it wasn't of economic benefit. Maybe (and only maybe) to the US, but WWII Bankrupted Great Britain, and would have eventually done the same to the US if the war had gone on indeterminately.

Remember, the idea with war is that you build great masses of equipment then set fire to it. No great economic benefit there except in the very short term, most war material is "use once" then build again. So any resources you put into building it ends up gone after you use it once, then you have to spend the same amount of resources all over again to be able to use it again.

Tom.

Best case scenario: Germany gets tired of getting bombed and is the first to invent the nuclear weapon, then destroys every country that opposes it.

Worst Case: Well...
