WI World War II starts over the Tyrol

The POD is a much more favorable German post World War I frontier with Poland, from the German point of view. Poland becomes a satellite of Germany and Hitler decides not to rock that boat.

However, Hitler still wants his war to settle things with the Western allies before turning on the Soviet Union (btw, a version of the Nazi-Soviet Pact still gets done in this timeline). So he uses the treatment by the Italians of their German minority to start the war instead.

How does this change World War I? And yes, Mussolini is still the dictator of Italy, though Hitler's friendship/ alliance with Mussolini doesn't happen in this timeline.

Too many butterflies for WWII to have ever happened in any recognizable form. A Germany hostile to Italy would likely never annex Austria, as Italy would object to losing influence in the region and would never ok it. That could lead to war then and there. And if it does, Germany gets crushed as it's doubtful France and the UK sit on the sidelines the way they did with Czechoslovakia.

This last is the reverse his confused thinking. He expected a final war with France after the Slavs were conquered. Perhaps not until 1945, but not earlier than 1942. He was a bit nonplussed & perhaps confused when France and Britain supported Poland to the point of war.

In his fantasy world Britain and Germany were natural allies. Britain's renewed hostility was not part of his vision.

The problem with this is that from an early time, Hitler distinguished himself from virtually all other German nationalists by insisting that a fuss not be made over the South Tyrol. This scandalized his fellow nationalists, both within the NSDAP and elsewhere, and he largely devoted his unpublished "Second Book" to defending his unpopular position on that issue. He thought that Italy and Great Britain could be useful allies in destroying the hated French hegemony in Europe. And once the French were taken care of, then and only then could Germany seek Lebensraum in the East through the destruction of the "Judaeo-Bolsheviks." In spite of all zigzags and temporary reconciliations with the Soviets, this remained his strategy.
