In the 1916 presidential election Woodrow Wilson narrowly defeated Gov. Charles Evan Hughes (R-NY) by barely swinging California in the Democrats' favor. Part of why Hughes lost was due to missing a key appointment with the popular Gov. Hiram Johnson (R-CA) which Johnson took as a slight and refused to actively campaign for Hughes.

What if Hughes makes the appointment and narrowly wins the White House? How would a Hughes Administration handle things like the First World War, the Mexican Revolution, and rising labor unrest, radicalism at home, and other major issues of the day? Would a Hughes presidency get the US involved in WWI?
