WI: William Worth Invades Cuba

I know Cuban invasions are overdone here, but I don't believe this one instance specifically has been brought up before.

Basically in 1848, while stationed at the War Department, a group of Freemasons known as the Havanna Club, made up of Southern Planters and Cuban Revolutionaries, offered Worth 3 million dollars to lead a 5,000 man invasion force, made up of Mexican-American War veterans, to overthrow the Spanish Colonial Government in Cuba. William had accepted their offer, but was transfered to Texas before they could move it forward, and then due to his death.

So suppose he is able to carry out the invasion [ie doesn't choose to die]; would it be as doomed to failure as the others?

Cuba is a large, well-armed and fortified colony under the protection of a European power. It is wealthy and important, would would easily repulse any filibuster attempt (just like in OTL).
