WI: William of Rubruck made an alliance with the Mongols, for France, and converted them to Christianity?
William of Rubruck made his journey east on behalf of the French King Louis IX, with the goals of converting the Mongols and making them an ally of the French. In his travels he came upon two different Mongol leaders Batu Khan of the Volga and the Great Khan Mangu. Both of these men refused his offer but what if one or both of them accepted instead of declining? If the Mongols did convert and ally with France it would be around the year 1254 when William had his audience with the Great Khan. When the Mongols did invade Palestine in 1260 how would they have faired if France and the County of Tripoli were on their side?
