WI William Lloyd Garrison ran for Congress in 1860? As a member of which party? The Republican party, of course, and that said, the Republicans were the party of antislavery. Abraham Lincoln, through his speeches, was in the
Abolitionist camp. However, when the Civil War broke out, Lincoln was more
eager to hold the Union together, even with slavery, and was reluctant to free
the slaves. It was Frederick Douglass, the famous black Abolitionist, who'd
advocated putting guns in the hands of blacks and putting them in the Union
Army. If William Lloyd Garrison had been in Congress, then emancipation would have come three years earlier.
