WI: William I of Orange escapes assasination in 1584?

The Point of Divergence in the ATL that I am currently working on
occurs when William I of Orange (William the Silent) - figurehead of
the Dutch troops in the Dutch War of Independence - narrowly avoids
assassination by Balthasar Gerard on the orders of Philip II of Spain
in 1584.

Elizabeth I would't extend her protection to The Netherlands against
Spain to avenge the murder of William of Orange, as in OTL.

Would this make the Dutch Netherlands' stronger or weaker in their
fight against the Spanish?

And what would happen to the Spanish Armada? Without Elizabeth's
involvement in the Netherlands, would the Spaniards still have enough
of a reason to justify their attempted invasion of the UK?

What would the long term effects be?
