WI: William Crawford wins the 1824 US Presidential Election

What would happen if William Crawford won the election in 1824?

Mr. Crawford is honestly one of those interesting individuals who does seem to be a tad overlooked when it comes to early American politicos; interestingly enough, he was apparently an early prominent member of the American Colonization Society. And with him being from Georgia, one might wonder if maybe his presidency might have put a bit of a damper on the ambitions of the Calhounian set, and later, the even more extreme Fire-Eaters who were to follow them.

I go into Crawford's politics at https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showpost.php?p=10827629&postcount=13 though in connection with the 1816 rather than the 1824 election. (I think Crawford had a much better chance of getting elected in 1816--when he probably could have gotten the endorsement of the congressional Republican caucus if he wanted it--than he would have had in 1824 even if his health was good. By 1824, the caucus system was just too unpopular to impose its choice.)

Plus in 1824 they wanted someone who was a unifier, and Crawford by 1824 was so deep in States Rights i do not think that anyone in the north would have voted for him, even with Van Buren pulling the strings in New York.,

Always an interesting butterfly.

I'm not sure how much he might have changed history from Monroe in 1816.

If elected or reelected in 1824, the US might have been spared the vitriol of the "stolen election" of JQA. Four years wasted there.

Certainly, Crawford could not have done worse than Jackson in 1828 who destroyed the national bank, mucked up the Supreme Court and ordered the Trail of Tears.
