WI: Western Roman Emperor Aegidius?

IOTL, in 461 AD, Ricimer assassinated the capable Western Roman Emperor Majorian and replaced him with his own puppet, Libius Severus. Aegidius refused to recognise Ricimer or Severus and broke away from Rome before later being murdered himself. His domain in Gaul, the Domain of Soissons, would then, years later, under his son, Syagrius, be lost to the Franks under Clovis.

Anyway, what if, either by being chosen by Ricimer instead of Libius Severus, or by marching on Italy as he planned to, Aegidius became Western Roman Emperor? Would it make much difference? Would he be recognised by Constantinople?

Any thoughts?

I don't know: Aegidius was a man of Majorian, i don't see his assassin appointing him as emperor. However if his march is successful, we could see an emperor in Italy that is recognized by all the provincial commanders appointed by Majorian as Marcellinus and Nepotian. Probably with the death of Ricimer, we have just avoided the death of the capable Marcellinus. In the end Aegidius seems to me competent enough to continue with the restoration of the empire started by Majorian.
