Back in the late 80s and early 90s, while Disney was making plans to expand its influence in Florida and around the globe, CEO Micheal Eisner had a fascinating dream for the original Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. He wanted to make Walt’s original park a multi-day experience, but simply plopping down a couple of hotels and calling it a day wasn’t going to do. The Disneyland complex needed something new to bring more guests in for longer stays. To that end, Disney came up with a fascinating and ambitious idea: a west coast version of EPCOT Center from Walt Disney World, along with a several billion dollar redevelopment of the land surrounding Disneyland. Despite many promising concepts, WestCOT sadly never saw the light of day, and in its place today is Disney’s California Adventure, a park which I have many fond memories of yet it pales in comparison to what WestCOT could have been. However, what if WestCOT was built in all of it’s ambitious glory? What kind of rides would we see developed? How would the rest of Disneyland be effected? How would the course of the Disney parks be changed?
